similar to and is a subset of Crew Resource
Management (CRM)
IMC's Bridge
Resource Management course
Complies with the
Convention on STCW 1995 Section B-VIII/2, Part 3-1 guidance on
keeping a navigational watch and suggests that shipping companies
take initiative in implementing Bridge Resource Management (BRM)
concept on their vessels. IMC's
BRM also satisfies the USCG requirements of 46 CFR 10.205 (o) .
Purpose
Our
4-day (30Hrs) course is designed to
increase teamwork and the effective use of the Bridge Resources by
the bridge personnel. Leadership in emergencies, Human causes and
factors in casualties are delved into in exercises and cases
studies. Simulator sessions emphasize in Judgment, voyage planning,
teamwork, communications, error trapping and relationship with
pilots.
The Simulator
At IMC we use 4 mini ship maneuvering simulator stations each
with a conning display, Visuals of the exercise area, an ARPA
display, a GMDSS equipment simulator and an Electronic Chart System
display. Students exercise on this simulator for improving their
teamwork, to realize the importance of situational awareness,
communication skills and voyage planning.
Candidates also use
a special Bridge Resource Management CBT developed by IMC in
consultation with leading Resource Management specialists from
Europe &
USA. The principles of BRM is explained using our
interactive CBT to tune the candidates Attitude & Management skills.
Latest group learning CBT techniques allow the candidates, to
perform interactive exercises in Challenge & Response, learn to plan
Strategies, and do other exercises in Management Styles,
Human Errors, Leadership in Emergencies, Judgment &
Decision Making.
Our
BRM Program can be tailored to specific needs of individual
shipping companies for their floating and shore based officers
and Ports for Pilots and VTS personnel
