IMC's
“Bridge Team Management " course covers subjects
specified by the STCW code competency tables. The course objectives
concentrate on passage planning skills and bridge management
techniques to promote effective bridge team management procedures.
Purpose
Weakness in
Bridge organization and management has been sited as the major cause
for marine casualties worldwide.
The Bridge Team
Management course will ensure that the navigating officers recognize
the importance of proper planning, threat assessment, effective
communications and good team work. The candidates are trained to
work safely and successfully as a team, making the most efficient
and effective use of all the resources on board.
Our 5-day " Bridge
Team Management " course is in accordance with and meets
requirements of, STCW '95 Regulation I/12, Code B- I/12 and elements
of the IMO model course 1.22.
The course can be
tailored to be more specific to individual company requirements and
still remain within the STCW / IMO guidelines.
The Simulator
The
course focuses on the importance of teamwork on
the bridge and is conducted on 4 independent and interactive
ship maneuvering simulators. Each ownship can be programmed
to be a different type of vessel with realistic maneuvering
characteristics with steering wheel and freedom of movement.
Each own ship is equipped with a conning display, Visuals of
the exercise area, an ARPA display, a GMDSS equipment simulator
and an Electronic Chart System display. Other navigation and
communication gears available on an actual vessel are available
to the students. 
Topics covered under
the course includes, Effective Management of Bridge Resources -
Passage Planning - Bridge Procedures - Ship Handling - Watch keeping
Conditions - Effective Communications - Integration of Pilot into
the Bridge Team - Situational Awareness - Leadership etc.

Minimum required is
3 candidates (1 Bridge team) & maximum 12 candidates (4 Bridge
teams)
