IMC successfully installs First-of-its-kind, State-of-the-art GMDSS Simulator at Indian Maritime University

IMC, a DG Shipping approved institute of India and a part of Elektronik Lab Group, are the pioneers in dealing with GMDSS Equipments and Simulator development. With a motto of "Training Thru Simulation" IMC has focused primarily on harnessing the power of software simulations and artificial intelligence to provide hands on training for various elements of Communication, Navigation and Cargo Handling.

IMC’s GMDSS Simulator, called MARCOM, incorporates all the latest models of GMDSS equipments presently being used on board ships. The physical and behavioural realism  and the opearting environments are as per the IMO Resolution A.703(17). It also also ensures correct and efficient training of all the GMDSS equipment subsystems as specified in the IMO Model course 1.25 and 1.26.

The main highlight of the Simulator is the inclusion of FLEET-77 module, in lieu of Imarsat-A, which is no longer in service. The Fleet-77 module incorporates the latest GMDSS Distress and Safety features, including Emergency Call Prioritisation or Pre-emption , which enables non-essential and low priority communications to be interrupted - ensuring safety and emergency calls always get through.
 
Another Unique feature of the MARCOM GMDSS Simulator is the introduction of Propagation Algorithm.  This feature enables the simulator to calculate the approximate distance between geographical positions of the student stations and allows VHF and MF communication between them only if they are within the VHF range (50 Nm) or MF range (400 Nm) of each other. This feature can be very useful for advanced examination of the students.

Presently IMC is  working on two more modules to be included in the GMDSS Simulator, viz., AIS and Ship Security Alert System, which will be provided as a Free upgarde to its customers.
